FanPulse: Broncos Country feeling confident heading into Week 1 Welcome to SB Nation FanPulse
, a survey of fans across the NFL powered by SurveyMonkey. Each week, we send 32 polls to 100+ plugged in fans from each team. Broncos fans, sign up HERE to join FanPulse.Hey Broncos Country! Our first week of polling is in the books and the results show a very optimistic fan base heading into Week 1 of the regular season. Our survey asked a few other questions as well, so here’s a break down of what you all think. Will the Broncos win or lose in Week 1?The Broncos are actually favored at home over the Seahawks by three points, but Vegas failed to acknowledge Denver’s 85% home win rate in the first two weeks of a season dating back to the merge. Which also includes a 19-1 run since 2001. As optimistic as fans can be, this might be a more accurate line than what Vegas has right now. What is the worst NFL rule?Sadly, the new helmet rule leads the list here. We’re all for better safety, but if the rule is confusing and inconsistent it is going to be something that just pisses us all off during the season. Especially if it results in a game changing play that screws the Denver Broncos out of a win.How confident are you in the direction of the team?I voted somewhat confident, because its hard to be very confident after a 5-11 season heading into the first week of the following season. Ask me again in Week 4 when the Broncos are 3-0 and I’ll be jumping that ship into the very confident category. There are plenty of reasons for Broncos fans to be at least somewhat confident in this team right now. They upgraded the worst quarterback situation in the NFL to something that resembles competence in Case Keenum and already have a stable of running backs that look like they could set the league on fire this season. What do you think of these results? This survey was limited only to those who signed up to participate in the FanPulse this season, so here is an everyone poll to see if the masses are in line with the few hundred in this survey. Good morning, Broncos Country. The list of things that went wrong for the Denver Broncos and their 2018 campaign are almost innumerable. Poor coaching, tenuous play-calling and head-scratching decisions on a routine basis made a tough schedule extremely difficult to overcome — but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Perhaps above all else
, the Broncos’ injury-marred roster was the primary culprit in the team’s overwhelming demise this season. In the course of a month the Broncos lost three starting players on their offensive line in Ronald Leary, Matt Paradis and Max Garcia. While Garcia’s caliber of play has left many fans wanting more, the loss of Leary and Paradis (two Pro-Bowl caliber players) were significant. While Denver’s patchwork offensive line impressed on a handful of occasions, it’s right to contemplate how much better the team could have been offensively had their line not been in flux due to injury.Losing receiving targets Jake Butt, Jeff Heuerman and Emmanuel Sanders also inhibited the Broncos’ ability to succeed on offense, especially in respect to the passing game. Not only that, but the ‘No Fly Zone’ became the ‘Frequent Fly Zone’ at a rapid pace. The never-ending “Who’s who?” in their secondary made it hard to stop any opposing team. Without question, replenishing the Broncos’ talent pool on the back-end of their defense will be a priority for John Elway and the front office this coming offseason. Just when you think it couldn’t get any worse, arguably the team’s most impressive player in Phillip Lindsay was lost for the last game of the season with a wrist injury. It may be just one game, but it symbolizes the never-ending woes of an injury-marred season that was just too much for the Broncos to bounce back from. Here’s to hoping that next year’s team can remain healthy and with a new head coach and revamped roster on the horizon — things will get better relatively quickly. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday and am wishing you and yours the best in the coming year.
